If you have thought of adding sign lanuguage to your choir either through teaching it to the choir OR having a Worship Signing Ministry performed at your event, Pam is the person I would contact! Pam brought not only sign language interpretation to our concert but a sensitivity and artistry to the interpretation that was inspiring for ALL who were present. She was also able to work with the chorus leadership to help us become more welcoming and accommodating to all.

Phinney Ridge Gospel Choir at Edmonds Lutheran Church

A freewill donation will be accepted with all proceeds being donated to Haiti Disaster Relief.

Gospel Christmas Concert

Hope! A Soulful Christmas Celebration

The Phinney Ridge Gospel Choir presents a concert of Gospel Healing and Christmas Music on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 4 pm in the sanctuary of Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church. During this 60 min. concert, the choir will perform African American choral music, including Negro spirituals, contemporary gospel, and music for Christmas. The group will be joined by musicians playing brass, flute, bass, and percussion along with members of the LYONS guitar ensemble in their debut performance. Tickets are free with a free will offering collected to support a program to provide free mammograms to women who otherwise would not be able to afford them. Invite your family and friends and join us as we celebrate the holidays with great music, good friends and egg nog and Christmas cookies after the concert.

Please join the Gospel Choir and Pastor Piro for All Saints Evening Prayer. It will be an opportunity to worship in the Candle Lit Sanctuary for a time of Scripture, Song, and Prayer. You are encouraged to bring a picture to the service and/or light a candle in celebration and memory of all the Saints in our lives who have gone before us. The service is from 7-7:30PM and is followed by Eucharist and Healing Prayers for those who desire them.

Holden Evening Prayer

Coming to any group for the first time can be intimidating. Here is some information that might help. Feel free to e-mail or post a comment with any questions.

The Phinney Ridge Gospel Choir has around 40 members. Most rehearsals we have 20-25 members in attendance. Our members range in experience from professional musicians to those who sing for fun and range in age from mid 20's to early 70's. The average age is 35. We are an ecumenical choir with members from several churches and some members who do not have a church affiliation. We sing gospel music ranging from traditional to contemporary, spirituals, South African freedom songs, and occasionally other types of music. There are many solo and song leader opportunities for those who are interested. Most of our arrangements are written out but we generally sing without music to better connect with our audience. The choir is pretty well balanced vocally. There are no auditions. The only requirement is that you are able to match pitch (carry a tune). We have a pianist but other gospel pianists are ALWAYS welcome. We generally sing with Piano, Bass, and Drums and alswaus welcome new instrumentalists. We sing 1-2 times per month at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church (once a month at the 8:30 am service and once a month at an evening prayer service). We also sing at other Churches when invited. We are planning 2 full length community concerts this year and several community events. Please know that you are welcome to attend any rehearsal. The Gospel Choir is committed to diversity and ALL people are welcome without regard to sex, financial status, race, religion, sexual preference or physical handicap. The choir is a music ministry of Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church and there are no membership or music fees. If you have a desire to share the Good News of the Gospel through music, there is a place for you in the Phinney Ridge Gospel Choir.

Gospel Choir Arrangements

The Phinney Ridge Gospel Choir has written arrangements for most of the music that we perform. These arrangements range from pencil marks on the back of napkins to published arrangements complete with horn parts. We are always happy to share arrangements with other choirs. If you see a song you are interested in on our blog, just contact Darren, our director. If we own the copyright to the arrangement, we will send you a copy. If it is a published work or an arrangement by another choir or director, we will give you their contact information. Because of the scarcity of well-conceived gospel arrangements, we encourage other choirs to consider making this type of sharing a part of their work in the community.

We are committed to honoring all known copyrights and always purchase arrangements when they are available. Support your composers and arrangers!

Phinney Ridge Gospel Choir Selected to Lead Worship at SYNOD Assembly

On September 7th the Phinney Ridge Gospel Choir will begin their fall season with a Gospel Evening Prayer Service featuring favorites of the Gospel Choir. Rehearsal will begin at 5:30pm with the service from 7pm-7:30. A time of prayer, readings, silence for reflection, and great gospel music will be followed by the opportunity to share communion and individual healing prayers.

The concert which is free and open to the community will be at 6:30pm and will immediately be followed by and our regular evening prayer service. On December 1st, over 250 people gathered as the snow fell to hear great gospel music and words of hope and healing. With your help we were able to raise over $2600to give directly to Multifaith Works. Through your generosity, Multifaith Works provides quality group housing to low-income people who are living with AIDS, MS or other life-threatening illnesses. In addition, the funds raised will help them to continue to mobilize over 550 volunteers who work to improve the lives of their clients by providing practical and emotional support.

Thank you to the many people who helped make the concert happen and to all of you who attended.

On Saturday, December 1st at 3pm the Phinney Ridge Lutheran Gospel Choir will present a Gospel Concert of Hope and Healing with The Rev. Delores Berry. Rev. Berry has ministered as a full-time gospel singer and evangelist since 1987. Visiting an average of 55 churches per year, Rev. Berry and her partner, Judy will have just returned from their European tour.

Rev. Berry is the recipient of numerous awards including the UFMCC Purple Grass Award for Excellence in Evangelism and is the first recipient the Rosa Parks Award, presented at the 2006 People of African Decent Conference. She is best known for her warm heart, her all-inclusive message of God's love, and her powerful, joyful voice. http://www.revdeloresberry.com
